Whole Numbers
In Chapter 1, it is very important for students to understand that in a multi-digit whole number a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as the digit in the place to its right and 1/10 of the digit in the place to its left. Use concrete materials, technology, and charts to help students to master this concept. Emphasize that the value of a digit is determined by its place value position.
